6th Grade - Mr. Anthony

Hello Parents of BTC Students. It has been a pleasure working with your kids. Here is a look at what we are covering in our classes for the first half of the month of October:

6th Grade Geography/Earth Science- At this time, Geography and Earth Science are seeing a lot of cross over content. Recently, in geography, we have been covering State names within the US and their capitals. Students have a "state project" due Thursday/Friday where they will be giving a brief presentation about a state of their choice. They will have a memorization quiz in a few weeks covering the names and locations of all 50 states.

6th Grade Earth Science- Students have been covering natural disasters, tectonic plates, and different forms of seismic activity. They will be performing their knowledge on an open note quiz Monday/Tuesday this week. We are also gathering supplies to create a paper matchet volcano that we will "explode" outside once its finished. Don't worry, it's just baking soda. Next week we will be covering planetary climate zones, biomes, and the water cycle.

7th grade American History before 1850- Students are currently working through Spanish exploration and exploitation of the Americas from Columbus' voyage in 1492 to Coronado's landing in 1540. There will be a Socratic Seminar that will require students to converse in class about a modern issue that is related to the topic of colonization and exploitation for resources; "do conquistadores still exist? What does it look like in the 21st Century?"

7th Grade Science Life and Physical Science- Students are currently learning about Animal and Plant cells and the basics of cell division called Mitosis and Meiosis. There will be a unit quiz and experiment that will lead into the use of microscopes to discover small cells in action.

8th Grade American History after 1850- Students recently finished their unit on American Slavery and Woman's Suffrage movement. They finished the unit with a PowerPoint project that covered prolific and inspiring women in US history. This week we are covering the American Transcendental movement. Student's are using this week and next to learn about the birth of a 19th century American Literary movement and crafting their own unique narratives and poetry based on common transcendental themes such as life, death, love, loss, nature, and God. Although somewhat unrelated, they are also learning how to write a Shakespearian sonnet in iambic pentameter.
