Whistle Stop

Located immediately adjacent to an active Norfolk-Southern freight line in the historic Ferguson Train Depot, the Whistle Stop has become a favorite spot for frozen custard, sandwiches, hot dogs, wraps, soups, salads and train watching.  The Whistle Stop is also the home of the Ferguson Depot Museum, which depicts the rich history of the City of Ferguson through a combination of photographs, artifacts and multi-media displays.  The newest addition to the museum is a newly restored authentic railroad hand car from the 1800’s.

Stepping inside the Whistle Stop, visitors are greeted with the aroma of fresh baked waffle cones and walls filled with stunning photographs from Ferguson’s early years.

Orders are placed and delivered through impressive oak and etched glass ticket windows made from a century old bank teller booth. Patrons are issued Boarding Passes with each order. When ready, orders are announced as trains ready to “board”. As many as 20 freight trains rumble past the Whistle Stop each day, providing visitors the opportunity to experience, up close, the awesome power of a modern diesel engine while enjoying their favorite frozen custard treat.

Whistle Stop frozen custard is made fresh every day.  Regular flavors include creamy vanilla, rich chocolate and “lite”.  In addition, the Whistle Stop features a special flavor each day.  Favorites include Cherry Bon Bon, Chocolate Almond Fudge, Coconut Cream Pie, Pistachio and Chocolate Strawberry Cheesecake.

The menu features the Whistle Stops’ specialties:  fresh baked waffle cones; the Fast Track, Cannonball and Smokestack sundaes; Cow Catcher and Hobo concretes; frozen custard pies; and Italian Lemon Ice blended with fruit toppings.  The Whistle Stop’s unique atmosphere and delicious treats earned the RiverFront Times’ 2001 award as the best new place for frozen custard in St. Louis!

Hungry for more than ice cream?  The Whistle Stop features fresh baked sandwiches, hot dogs, salads, toasted raviolis, white chicken chili and a soup of the day.  Perfect for lunch or dinner, Whistle Stop sandwiches are a welcome change from the ordinary.
